MR AKELO M.T MISORI

Education

He was educated at Miyuga Primary School, Kamwala Primary School (1976), Wang’apala Secondary School (1981), Agoro Sare High School (1983), Siriba Teachers College (1989) and Kenyatta University (2002).

Professional Background

A teacher and trade unionist with nearly 30 years of experience, Misori taught for 17 years at Migori Boys High School, where he was posted immediately upon his completion of a Diploma in Education course at Siriba Teachers Training College in 1989.
One of the founder members of KUPPET, he was elected branch official in 2001, and 2006.  He became the National Chairman in July 2006. In 2011 he was elected the Secretary General, and reelected in 2016.
In his capacity as the KUPPET Secretary General, Misori is a member of the Boards of Elimu Yetu Coalition, NHIF, ANCEFA and IDay International.

MOSES NTHURIMA

Education

Mr. Nthurima hails from Meru County, he attended Nkando Boys High School and later joined Kasokwony High School in Bungoma for “A” Levels.

Professional Background

A career teacher and a lawyer, he studied for B.Ed Linguistics and Literature at University of Nairobi and afterwards did and graduated with Bachelors of Laws from University of South Africa (UNISA). Apart from being a lawyer, Mr. Nthurima is a trained legislative drafter.
During his teaching days, he undertook human rights activism and Civic Education through a number of civil societies.  He worked with Centre for Law Research International, National Convention Executive Council (NCEC) and Ecumenical Civic Education Programme with regard to piling pressure on KANU regime to embrace constitutional reforms.
In 2001, alongside others, he founded the Meru branch of KUPPET in which he became the first branch Vice Chairman.  He then took over as the branch Executive Secretary in a subsequent by-election that was occasioned by the retirement of Mr. Murungi, the founder Executive Secretary.

In 2006, he was elected the Deputy Secretary General of KUPPET, a position he holds to-date.  In the service of KUPPET, he was appointed to serve in a number of taskforces which includes but not limited to; Gachukia Taskforce on Free Day Secondary School Education, Doughlas Odhiambo Taskforce on alignment of education sector to the constitution among others.  Apart from deputizing the Secretary General at the Union, he serves as the legal advisor to the union.

  • Exploitation of Music skills in soloing song and chants psyching members during strikes and other union fora has earned him the nickname   ‘choir master’
  • Participated in writing a proposal to RAP which gave the union funding to scrutinize all Education bills in 2012.
  • As the NST, now teaming up with other Board members in fighting for a new scheme of service, promotion and better working environment for trainers in Technical institutes, polytechnics and Teachers Training Colleges.
  • Bringing together all post primary teachers in order to fight together for better remuneration and a highly esteemed teaching fraternity is my mission.
